A good night’s sleep is incredibly important to your health; it is just as important as eating healthy and exercising. Getting a good quality of sleep helps with productivity, boosting your immune system, preventing weight gain, better mood, and improves your memory.
Here are some tips to help you sleep better at night:
1) Try to go to sleep and wake up at the same times each day.
Establishing a consistent sleep/wake pattern can help your body get into a routine that allows for deeper, more replenishing sleep. Irregular sleep patterns have been shown to alter your circadian rhythm and melatonin levels leading to a disconnect with the brain’s “sleep” signal.2) Reduce your exposure to blue light right before going to bed. Blue light is emitted by your computer and smartphone and can trick your brain into thinking it’s day time and cause problems when trying to fall asleep. Try avoiding these devices for about an hour before you go to sleep or try wearing glasses that protect against blue light. If you like to look at your phone or computer at night, check to see if there is a “Dark Mode” option that you can use!Â
3) Avoid consuming large amounts of caffeine in the afternoon.
